Editorial standards
A lighting essay that misstates a lux level can waste money or leave a dock too dark. We treat numbers as safety-critical.
Independence
The desk is not a manufacturer, importer or electrical contractor. We do not accept payment for a ranking, a “best of” list, or an unnamed product mention. Guest work follows the write for us rules.
Sources
Prefer primary Australian documents: Standards Australia, the National Construction Code, Safe Work Australia, NABERS, Green Star, state WHS regulators and the ABCB. Overseas IES or CIE documents are useful context but are labelled as such. If a figure is typical rather than mandated, we say so.
Language
Australian English. Metres, lux, kelvin, watts and dollars. We write “colour”, “organise”, “licence” (noun) and “program” only when it is software. We avoid US catalogue slang unless we are quoting a datasheet.
Corrections
Material errors are corrected in the article and noted with a date. Send the URL, the sentence and the better source through contact. We do not silently rewrite history for a supplier's comfort.
Conflicts
Authors declare retainers, product they sell, and clients who would benefit. The editor can kill a piece. Sponsored URLs, if any exist, use rel="sponsored".
Images
Only Creative Commons or public domain files, downloaded and hosted here, with on-page credit and a line on the image credits page. We do not launder a manufacturer hero shot as journalism.
AI and originality
Essays are commissioned and edited as original work. We do not publish scraped manufacturer copy or unreviewed machine drafts. Tools may be used for research notes; the published sentences are the author's and the editor's.
